For almost two decades, Minnie Piercy has helped seniors in her community stay active and enjoy life.

Minnie has acted as president of the North Sydney Senior and Pensioners Club for 17 years.

“I just enjoy doing work. I'm me when I'm active,” says Minnie.

The club has won many awards under Minnie’s leadership

“The last six of seven years we go to Sydney and send in an application of all the things we do throughout the year and then they decide and notify us. Again this year we were presented with the top award for hard work and dedicated club,” says Shirley Laffin, board member.

That success is attributed to Minnie, who helped transform the club into a newer more modern facility.

“Two or three nights out of every week there's something going on for seniors,” says Minnie. “We have an application waiting list to come in, so that shows you that we are very active.”

A retired school teacher, Minnie also volunteers with other organizations in the community, but she says the club is an important part of life for many of the members.

“When I took over this club it was almost ready to close its doors,” says Minnie.

Congratulations to Minnie Piercy, our Maritimer of the Week.

If you know someone deserving of our Maritimer of the Week award, we want to hear about it.

It doesn’t matter how old they are, the nature of the good deed they’ve done, or what part of the region they live in — we want your ideas!
