Two men are facing numerous weapons-related charges after police seized 72 firearms during searches in Halifax and Lantz, N.S.

Police executed a search warrant at an apartment and a vehicle in the 300 block of Main Avenue in Halifax on Dec. 10.

Another search was executed at an address in Lantz on Dec. 12.

Police say they seized a total of 72 firearms, including 34 handguns, 31 rifles and seven shotguns during the raids. Fifty-one of the 72 firearms were restricted and 62 firearms seized from the Main Avenue apartment were not safely stored.

Roughly 10,000 rounds of ammunition were also seized.

Two men, aged 27 and 21, were arrested at the Main Avenue apartment without incident. They are due to appear in Halifax provincial court on Jan. 20 to face weapons-related charges, including several counts of unsafe storage of firearms and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Investigators believe the men are gun enthusiasts and say they don’t appear to be using the firearms for criminal purposes. However, they say weapons can result in serious injury or fall into the wrong hands if they aren’t stored properly.
