The Nova Scotia RCMP say an 80-year-old man who had been missing for five days has been found safe.

Willard McKay was last seen driving his van near a home on Highway 246 in New Annan, N.S. around 10:30 p.m. Friday.

Police said McKay had several medical conditions and his family was concerned for his safety.

An extensive search was launched in Colchester County, with police officers and community members scouring trails and back roads.

McKay was eventually found in Salt Springs, N.S. around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police initially said he had been found inside his van, but they clarified Thursday that he was, in fact, found lying on the side of a back road.

He was treated at the scene and later transported to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst, N.S. Police say he was dehydrated, but is otherwise OK.

Investigators are still looking for McKay’s van, but say foul play is not suspected.
