The RCMP say two snowmobilers reported missing in the Cape Breton Highlands have been found.

A 54-year-old Iona man and a 35-year-old Halifax man were planning to snowmobile from Middle River to Cheticamp. They left around 10:30 a.m. Monday.

The men were supposed to contact family once they arrived in Cheticamp but they failed to do so. They were reported missing to police Tuesday morning.

Police say their preliminary investigation revealed that both men accidentally flipped their snowmobiles.

One of the men walked to a Department of Natural Resources office in the Cheticamp area around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The other snowmobiler was held up in a cabin due to injuries.

Police say a Department of Natural Resources helicopter retrieved the man from the cabin. He was taken to hospital in Cheticamp but his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Employees with the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources, volunteers from the Baddeck and Halifax fire departments and community members assisted in searching for the snowmobilers.
