There’s been another destructive fire at a small town fire fall in the Maritimes.

It happened just before dawn in Millville, New Brunswick, not too far away from Nackawic, where a firehouse was gutted exactly one week ago.

Once again, thousands of dollars’ worth of firefighting equipment was destroyed.

“It was so far advanced, and had been burning for so long,” says Chief Justin Mcguigan of the Millville Fire Department. “We couldn’t get near the building to save anything.”

Many residents say they were woken up by explosions.

“Of course we could here rumbling,” says resident Garth Morehouse. “It was the fire and then another big bang where some of the tanks were popping.”

Nobody was injured, but two fire trucks and an all-terrain vehicle were destroyed.

“That big lump of metal over there is engine 7,” explains Fire Chief Mcguigan. “I said to one of our guys, I bet you never thought you’d be spraying water on it in the station.”

“It’s very devastating to this poor little community,” adds Morehouse. “Last week in Nackawic, and this week here, it’s scary, about all it is.”

The cause of Monday morning’s fire in Millville is still under investigation.

A man has been charged and ordered to undergo a psychiatric assessment in connection to the Nackawic incident.

“It’s quite disconcerting to think that a fire could happen within a week of one another,’ says Fire Chief Mcguigan.
