HALIFAX - A business group critical of an emissions spewing mill in Pictou, Nova Scotia says a new government compliance deadline isn't immediate enough.
Anne Emmett of Clean Pictou Air, says the order issued yesterday to Northern Pulp is a positive sign the province is starting to listen to concerns from her group and others.
Emmett says while it does put in writing many of the things the government has promised mill critics, it still doesn't deal with what is an immediate problem.
The compliance order gives the mill until May 30th to install a new precipitator and to meet new emission standards expected in January.
Premier Stephen McNeil says if the mill doesn't comply with the order it will be forced to close.
Mill spokesman Dave MacKenzie says the company is confident it will be able to meet all of the requirements in the order by the deadline.
