SAINT JOHN, N.B. -- People in New Brunswick are being warned about two online trading sites.

The Financial and Consumer Services Commission says in a statement that people should be aware of investment solicitations by OneTwoTrade.com and EveryOption.com.

Jake van der Laan, director of enforcement with the Crown corporation, says the companies are not registered to sell or to receive investments from New Brunswickers.

He says they appear to be based offshore and use multiple names.

The companies market themselves as offering binary options, which are similar to bets on whether the value of an asset will increase or decrease.

He says the commission recently learned that someone in the province invested in the companies and lost a significant amount of money.
