A 101-year-old Nova Scotia woman has found Internet fame after a video of her showing her dance moves made its rounds on social media.

Minerva Boran lives in White Birches Retirement Residence in Amherst. She said she never realized how good of a dancer she was.

“I like to dance with just anybody that likes to dance too,” Boran said.

And it doesn't take any coaxing to get her on the dance floor. It has her friends at the retirement home impressed.

“They're saying, ‘I wish I could dance like that again,’” said activities co-ordinator Cathy Wilson, “and then Minerva, well, she's just up and going and everybody cheers for her.”

“They love it. They love watching her.”

A video of Minerva dancing to an Elvis song has received more than one million views in the last few weeks.

She's not sure what all the fuss is about, but loves the attention.

“She's shocked,” Wilson said. “We say, ‘Look at them. They all love you, Minerva.’ And she loves it.”

In her younger days, Minerva was a teacher and school principal. She never married and has no children. But she has one philosophy that's helped keep her young.

“Dance at all times,” she said. “It's just nice exercise and it's a nice feeling.”

Minerva has her 102nd birthday coming up in April. The retirement home is planning a party with – you guessed it – plenty of dancing.
