A 23-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman are facing several charges after a cab driver was assaulted in Dartmouth Friday night.

Around 10:30 pm, Halifax police responded to the call in the 100 block of Pinecrest Drive. They say the cab driver was sprayed with a sensory irritant, and two suspects fled after he was assaulted.

Police searched the area and found a man who matched the description given by the cab driver.

After a short chase on foot with police, the 23-year-old Dartmouth man was arrested. He will appear in Dartmouth provincial court on Dec 5. He faces charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, fraud by fares and breach of court orders.

Police also located the 19-year-old female suspect in the area a short time later.

The woman, also from Dartmouth, was arrested without incident. She faces charges of fraud by fares and will appear in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date.
