A 32-year-old man has been charged with assault after he allegedly spit on a woman in an apparent road-rage incident in Bedford, N.S.

Halifax Regional Police responded to the 900 block of the Bedford Highway around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say an 18-year-old male driver and a 47-year-old female passenger were driving outbound on Highway 102 when they noticed a vehicle driving dangerously on the road.

As they exited off Highway 102 onto the Hammonds Plains Road, police say the suspect’s vehicle swerved across two lanes of traffic and cut in front of the complainant’s vehicle on the exit ramp.

They lost sight of the vehicle, but a short time later, while waiting at a red light at the intersection of Hammonds Plains Road and the Bedford Highway, they noticed the vehicle was parked nearby.

Police say the man got out of his vehicle and approached the passenger side of their vehicle. He allegedly yelled obscenities at the man and woman and then spit in the woman’s face.

They called police and provided a description of the vehicle as well as the licence plate number. Officers located and arrested the suspect at his home on the Bedford Hills Road.

The man is due in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face an assault charge.
