MONCTON, N.B. -- Firefighters in Moncton spent twelve hours at the scene of a medical waste facility that caught fire Saturday night.

The Moncton Fire Department says the Stericycle waste facility in Caledonia industrial park was destroyed in a fire that started around 6:30 p.m.

Spokesman Robert Brine says some employees were in the building when the fire broke out but nobody was injured.

He says the fire was too big for crews to enter the building, and that they made an effort to stay upwind because of the potentially harmful contents inside.

Brine says Environment Canada has been assessing the aftermath of the fire and that its cause is still under investigation.
