More than 125 people gathered at a Halifax restaurant for a fundraiser for Amanda Bagley on Sunday.

The 34-year-old was severely injured in a house fire in Port Hawkesbury, N.S., on April 3. Her nine-year-old son Oaklee, who was also injured in the fire, died in hospital three days later.

“This is absolutely amazing,” said family friend Gloria Chafe. “I just spoke to one of (Amanda’s) relatives, FaceTimed her to show her what’s going on.  She’s just blown away by this, she told me to say the family is so appreciative of what’s going on.”

Amanda was released from hospital on Saturday. She’s now recovering in Cape Breton, but she isn’t at home. The fire nearly destroyed her house and all her belongings.

“Amanda has a long recovery ahead of her. The money will be used to help with that,” said restaurant manager Lisa Sullivan.
Auction items included a signed Boston Bruins jersey from Brad Marchand.

An online fundraising page has raised more than $11,000 for Amanda already. Friends and neighbours say Amanda was a single mother and she and Oaklee were extremely close.

Oaklee’s funeral will be held on Friday.
