A grieving father struggling with the loss of his son is now dealing with the loss of a cellphone containing precious photographs and videos of his boy.
John Blois says he placed his phone on the roof of his truck and forgot to take it down before he drove off Friday afternoon.
“I left here and went down Prospect Street and I swung up Hanwell Road to the highway and I went down the highway,” says the Fredericton resident. “I know where I had it sitting on the truck, it couldn’t have sat for very long before it fell off because when I got back home I looked for it and I couldn’t find.”
Blois says he isn’t too upset about losing the cellphone itself, but is devastated to lose the hundreds of photos and videos saved on it.
“I’ve been just beside myself trying to get it back because I’ve got all his videos, my son’s videos and pictures on it, and he’s passed away and I can never replace it.”
Garrett Blois, 9, died in March after collapsing while walking to school. Doctors determined he had inherited a rare heart condition.
Blois has reported his missing Samsung Galaxy 3 to the Fredericton Police.
“This happens all the time with lost wallets and with cellphones as well, so, if you do find one and it’s not yours, you can bring it down to the station, no questions asked, and we will do our very best to find its owner,” says Alycia Morehouse of the Fredericton Police Department.
Blois says at least three calls have been made on the cellphone since it disappeared. He speculates someone found the phone and is trying to use it.
He says his greatest fear is that whoever found the phone will simply throw it out without realizing how valuable and irreplaceable the contents are.
“My God, I’d be so happy to have it back.”
