A 28-year-old Halifax man is facing charges after he allegedly got into a fight with a woman and tried to keep her in his vehicle against her will.

The RCMP were called to the 1500 block of the Beaver Bank Road around 8 p.m. Thursday.

Witnesses told police that a man and a woman were fighting and she got out of the vehicle while it was stopped in traffic.

Police say the man forced her back into the car, and when she tried to exit the vehicle a second time, he stopped her from getting out and kept her inside against her will.

Bystanders tried to help the woman get out of the car, and when she was halfway out, police say the man began to move the vehicle and the woman fell to the ground.

RCMP arrived on scene a short time later and arrested the man. The woman was treated at the scene.

Christopher Bruce Duffett was held in custody overnight. He is facing two counts of assault, as well as charges of assault with a weapon, uttering threats, administering a noxious substance, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
