A Halifax Regional Police officer is facing impaired driving charges after he was pulled over near New Minas, N.S. Thursday evening.

New Minas RCMP conducted the traffic stop on Highway 101 shortly after 10 p.m. The officer was off duty at the time.

Police say he is facing charges of impaired driving and having a blood alcohol level that exceeds the legal limit.

The officer is due to appear in Kentville provincial court at a later date. His name won’t be released until the information has been sworn before the courts. This is expected to take place on Monday.

Police say he has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the matter.

Under the Nova Scotia Police Act, officers suspended must receive pay and allowances for at least 60 days during their suspension. After 60 days, the chief of police can decide whether the suspension will continue with or without pay.
