Someone has stolen a historic altar cross from the chapel at the University of King’s College in Halifax.

The cross is believed to have been stolen sometime between Aug. 2 and Aug. 4.

The chapel's sacristan, Will Barton, says the cross has been at the multi-faith chapel for decades and is an integral part of the service.

“It’s become an historical part of the college and the chapel community,” he says. “But it’s always been a part of our prayer life, our devotional life and sort of the spirit of this place.”

Posters have been placed all over Halifax and police have been notified, but so far they have no leads.

Chapel officials say a replacement cross could cost several thousand dollars.
