The RCMP say charges have been laid against the man arrested in connection with an alleged home invasion and abduction in Moncton.

Police say 21-year-old John Jay Anderson was arrested without incident Thursday morning.

“Around 11:45 this morning we arrested him without incident in a residence in the Shediac Road area of Moncton,” says Codiac RCMP Const. Damien Theriault on Thursday.

The charges include break and enter, unlawful confinement, committing an assault, threatening someone and failing to comply with his probation order.

Anderson is suspected of breaking into a home on McLaughlin Drive and taking an 18-year-old woman against her will Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators determined the suspect and victim travelled to Miramichi before returning to the Moncton area. The Miramichi Police Force and other RCMP detachments were involved in the search, along with an RCMP helicopter.

Officers eventually located the victim in Moncton around 8 p.m. Tuesday. Police say she sustained minor physical injuries.

Investigators say the incident wasn’t a random act as Anderson and his alleged victim are known to one another, although they wouldn’t elaborate on their relationship.

Area residents say they are a little unnerved by the alleged home invasion and abduction, but are relieved it’s over.

“I just live on Grant Street here and with all the things going around, it’s only a few streets from where we live, it’s kind of frightening really,” says Allen Mills.

“I think that it’s not safe anymore. I don’t know, it just sounds really weird to me,” says Jason Lavigne. “We are not used to seeing stuff like that.”

Anderson will be held in police custody until a bail hearing on Sept. 2.
