A 59-year-old man is facing a slew of charges in connection with an armed robbery at a Needs convenience store in Halifax.

Police responded to the store in the 0-100 block of Herring Cove Road shortly after 5 a.m. on May 20.

They say two men entered the store and demanded cash and cigarettes. One of the men was carrying a handgun while the other was carrying a crowbar.

Police say the female clerk wasn’t injured, but the suspects grabbed her and forced her to accompany them as they went around the store picking up items.

After fleeing the scene they were last seen travelling up Withrod Drive in a silver, mid-sized car with rust on the bottom of the doors.

Police say the vehicle had been stolen from Parkland Drive in Halifax on May 11 and was recovered after being abandoned on Armstrong Court on Monday.

Officers executed a search warrant at an apartment on Evans Avenue Wednesday afternoon and arrested a man in connection with the robbery.

Richard James Greene was held in custody overnight and is due to appear in court Wednesday to face the following charges:

  • Using a firearm in the commission of an offence
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Carrying a concealed weapon

  • Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order
  • Uttering threats
  • Motor vehicle theft
  • Robbery
  • Disguise with intent
  • Possession of property obtained by crime

Investigators are still looking for the second suspect. They say his ethnicity is unknown and his face was covered during the robbery. He was wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
