A Watford, N.S. man is facing impaired driving charges in connection with a head-on collision on Highway 103 near Mahone Bay.

Police and emergency crews responded to the crash between exits 10 and 11 shortly after 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators say it appears a westbound Ford Escape collided head-on with a Mazda.

The 26-year-old female driver of the Mazda was taken to the South Shore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She has since been released.

The driver of the Ford Escape was also taken to the South Shore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and then released into the custody of the RCMP.

Police say the 40-year-old man provided breath samples at the Cookville RCMP detachment. He was released from custody and is due to appear in Bridgewater provincial court on Sept. 3 to face impaired driving charges.

The collision remains under investigation.
