After 96 years in business on Halifax's Spring Garden Road, Mills Halifax has closed its doors for the last time.

The company was placed in receivership at close of business Tuesday and the company's 20 full-time and part-time employees were told about the closure at a meeting this morning.

An ownership group purchased Mills in 2012. Lisa Gallivan and Candace Thomas became the sole shareholders earlier this year. In a press release, they say they were not able to generate enough business to continue operating.

The owners say they will co-operate fully with the appointed receiver to help him manage the sale of the firm's assets to repay as many creditors as possible.
