SAINT JOHN – Premier David Alward has announced that if elected for a second term, his government will create a new oil, gas and mining training centre in New Brunswick.

On the campaign trail Friday, Alward said the centre would focus on training people for jobs in the energy sector.

“There is a clear plan to ensure our skilled workers have the training they need to build New Brunswick’s future as one of Canada’s ‘have’ economies,” says Alward. “We need to be absolutely ready to ensure New Brunswickers have the skills and the opportunities to work in these new industries and earn a very good living in their own communities.”

Alward says his government would spend $5.5 million on the facility.

“New Brunswick’s Oil, Gas and Mining Training Centre will guarantee we are ready to change this province’s economy forever.”

Alward says the training centre would partner with the oil and gas industry to ensure that offered programs will be relevant to modern standards.
