A Nova Scotia cancer patient received the surprise of a lifetime Thursday, thanks to his wife and lifelong best friend.

Greg Lapierre has been battling cancer for over a year and his wife Holly wanted to do something special for him.

“She called me and said ‘I have a project for you,’” says Lapierre’s best friend, Jamie Sullivan.

Lapierre has always been crazy about muscle cars and had been eyeballing a 1969 Barracuda on Craigslist.

Holly arranged for their friend Lenny to buy the car in British Columbia and then had it shipped home to Hammonds Plains, N.S.

The Barracuda arrived Thursday, with Sullivan behind the wheel and the cameras rolling.

“So when he pulled down the driveway, I just assumed he had bought the car because he had teased me so much about it,” says Lapierre.

“He just kept looking at the dash and ignoring it and I said, ‘no seriously Greg, the car is yours,' and he didn't believe it,” says Sullivan.

“He was so flabbergasted we had to tell him three times he owned the car,” says Holly.

Holly not only recorded the surprise, but also streamed it live.

“My cousin was watching from Hong Kong Friday morning for breakfast,” she says.

“I'm glad she videotaped it because I don't remember most of it,” says Lapierre.

The Lapierres have already driven 30 hours and put 1,000 kilometres on the Barracuda’s odometer.

“It’s just one of those things, it’s a dream come true,” says Lapierre. “Even a regular Barracuda is one thing, but with the convertible top and the 4-speed, it makes it that much more rare.”

For Holly, making her husband happy was worth every cent.

“The word cancer wasn't mentioned for a couple of days, let's put it that way.”
