Police in Nova Scotia say a young man is in hospital with serious injuries after his motorcycle collided with a deer on Friday night.

Colchester County RCMP are investigating the crash that saw police, paramedics and the Onslow Belmont Fire Brigade respond to Onslow Mountain Road, near Truro, at about 11:30 p.m. Friday.

There they found the motorcycle driver, a 19-year-old man from Belmont, N.S., lying in the middle of the road, with the dead deer in the westbound lane, police say.

Investigators believe the man was driving eastbound from Belmont when he hit the deer, and that no other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Police say the man was taken to hospital and then airlifted to the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, where he remains in critical condition.

A traffic reconstructionist attended the scene and is helping police with their investigation.
