FREDERICTON -- A New Brunswick man found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of his former girlfriend has had his appeal of the conviction dismissed.

Fred Prosser was convicted in December 2012 of first-degree murder, sexual assault causing bodily harm, and sexual assault.

Sabrina Patterson of Riverview went missing in October of 2010 and her body was found about a week later near Shenstone, N.B.

Court was told that the 25-year-old woman died of strangulation and was partially wrapped in a garbage bag dropped on the side of a rural road in a wooded area.

Prosser appealed the conviction, arguing there were errors dealing with DNA evidence, among other things.

The Court of Appeal ruled Thursday that the jury was properly instructed on the evidence.
