CHARLOTTETOWN -- Prince Edward Island says releasing letters outlining the priorities of government departments will enhance the province's transparency.

The ministerial mandate letters, which are being posted online for the first time, show the government's priorities and policy focuses for each department.

Premier Wade MacLauchlan says releasing the documents gives Islanders a greater sense of the government's direction.

The province says the letters emphasize the need for departments to work together and to conduct themselves in an accountable, transparent, and ethical manner.
