Halifax police say a man faces charges after a motorist was injured in an alleged assault by a pedestrian.

Police say Thursday's incident occurred around 7:10 p.m. near a crosswalk at the intersection of Portland Place and Gottingen Street.

Police say the driver was moving through the crosswalk when the pedestrian struck his car.

The driver told police that as he pulled away his car was hit with a beer bottle.

Police say the man was assaulted after he stopped the car and tried to call to report the incident.

Police say a man has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and breach of probation.
