Premier Stephen McNeil was calling out Nova Scotia Power on Thursday.

The premier took issue with the company’s explanation of what went wrong in the aftermath of post-tropical storm Arthur.

Roughly 245,000 people lost power during and after the storm in July.

Among other things, Nova Scotia Power blames ‘poor weather forecasting’ for the prolonged outages.

The premier says the utility has a responsibility to be more prepared and more forthright when grappling with bad weather, but acknowledged his government has to shoulder some of the blame as well.

“The way they responded to the concerns that Nova Scotians had wasn’t good enough. I would also say that government’s response wasn’t good enough when it came to EMO,” the premier says.

McNeil says his government will learn lessons from Arthur, and be better prepared for major summer storms from now on.
