PEGGYS COVE, N.S. -- The RCMP in Nova Scotia have decided to end a recovery operation because of rough seas Friday for a man who was swept off the rocks at Peggys Cove earlier this week.

The Mounties say they plan to assess conditions again on Sunday and could send their underwater recovery team back into the sea then.

The 25-year-old from Ontario and a woman were walking along the shoreline when a large wave swept him into the ocean at around 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

A helicopter from the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre and three coast guard vessels helped in a search Wednesday.

It ended about six hours after the man was swept into the water.

The man's name has not been released.
