RCMP have released the name of a fisherman whose body was found in the Fisher Lake area of Nova Scotia’s Annapolis County.

Annapolis County RCMP received a call before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday that a fisherman was missing after his boat capsized on Fisher Lake around 5 p.m.

Police say one man in the boat managed to swim to shore and called the RCMP, but a second man who was in the boat disappeared.

Crews searched for the missing fisherman overnight and eventually found his body shortly after 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police have identified the man as 51-year-old Cecil Ellsworth Brannen of Cape Sable Island.

The preliminary investigation determined the boat struck a rock and the operator lost control, causing the vessel to overturn in the lake.

Police say Brannen drowned after falling in the frigid water.

The incident remains under investigation but police do not suspect foul play.
