Yarmouth County RCMP is investigating after a needle was found in a potato on Thursday.

Police say they were called to the Co-op Store in Lower West Pubnico, N.S. where the store manager turned over a russet potato returned by a customer.

There was a needle inside the spud.

It was determined the potato was purchased from a company in Prince Edward Island. Further investigation revealed the potatoes were sold in 10 lb paper bags and with brand-named “Market Town.”

Police say there’s a possibility there may be more.

The potatoes had been placed out in the store for sale on October 2nd for four just hours when staff was notified by the company the item was being recalled.

The potatoes were pulled from the shelves immediately, but 62 bags of potatoes had already been sold.

Needles have been found in at least 11 potatoes throughout Atlantic Canada since early October.

No one has been injured.
