Police in New Brunswick are investigating a rash of thefts from vehicles in the Moncton area this week.

Codiac Regional RCMP say they are looking into 29 incidents that took place in Dieppe, Riverview and Moncton between April 20 and 23.

In 11 of the reported incidents, windows were smashed to get into the vehicle, police say.

Police are reminding drivers to hide or remove their valuables when they park their car.

They also want to remind motorists to lock their cars: of the 18 incidents where a theft occurred but no windows were broken, only one of these vehicles had its doors locked, police say.

“Thefts from vehicles are a crime of opportunity and only take a few seconds to smash and grab or simply open the door and reach in,” said Staff Sgt. Mark Janes.

RCMP are providing a map on their website of where the reported incidents occurred.

Police are asking the public to help in the investigation by reporting suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods, especially people who may be walking too close to vehicles and looking in windows.

Anyone with information about this recent rash of thefts is asked to contact Codiac Regional RCMP at 506-857-2400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
