RCMP in New Brunswick are investigating after two young women were found dead in the same apartment three weeks apart.

Police responded to the building on Gordon Street in Moncton just before 1 p.m. Wednesday.

“Just around 1 p.m. we were called to that location on Gordon Street regarding the death of a 22-year-old woman,” confirms Const. Damien Theriault.

Police say officers detained a 40-year-old man at the apartment. He is facing a mischief charge unrelated to the woman’s death.

The incident remains under investigation, but foul play isn’t suspected. Friends of the victim believe her death is connected to drug use.

“It’s sad that it got to that point when there are resources in the community to help people with these problems, it’s sad that she wasn’t able to get the help before it was too late,” says Stephanie James.

“She was a nice person but she was lost. She couldn’t really see what direction her life was supposed to go.”

Investigators say this is the second time in less than a month that officers have responded to a sudden death call at the same apartment.

Police were called to the apartment on July 2 to investigate the death of a 25-year-old woman.

While foul play is not suspected in the case, investigators are still awaiting the autopsy results.

“We are investigating the matters. Right now they are classified as sudden deaths. We are conducting a full investigation,” says Theriault.

Police say both women were from Moncton. Their names are not being released at this time.
