A half dozen people are homeless after a fire in a Saint John apartment building.

Fire crews responded around 12:30 p.m. Thursday to Sewell Street, where a fire started on the first floor of the four unit apartment building.

"First arriving crews found heavy smoke emanating from the division one, from the first floor of the building. Crews conducted simultaneous tack and search operation, the building was found to be all clear,” says Saint John Fire Department Platoon Chief Roy Buyers. “There's extensive damage to the building on division one and smoke damage on three floors."

No one was injured.
