A 23-year-old Sydney man is facing several charges after he allegedly stole a vehicle and drove it while under the influence of drugs.

Cape Breton RCMP responded to a complaint of an erratic driver on Highway 125 headed towards North Sydney around 10:45 p.m. Sunday.

Officers spotted the vehicle and a check on the licence plate indicated the vehicle had been stolen.

Police tried to pull the vehicle over but say the driver failed to stop, and continued to drive through several stop signs, over curbs, and finally ended up in a ditch.

The man was arrested in Sydney Mines and taken into custody.

Christopher Kyle Coleski is facing charges of impaired driving by drug, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, theft of a vehicle, possession of stolen property, and flight from police.

He appeared in Sydney provincial court on Monday and has been remanded into custody until a bail hearing on Oct. 29 in Sydney.
