The entire video recording of Dennis Oland’s police interrogation has been released to the public.

Richard Oland's body was found in his uptown Saint John office on July 7, 2011. The day after his father was killed, Oland was interviewed for five hours. Only half of the video was released during the trial, but now the other half of the video has been released.

Nearly two-and-a-half hours into the interrorgation, Oland is given the option to phone a lawyer by Const. Stephen Davidson.

“Given how uncomfortable I feel right now, I would like to exercise that right,” Oland says in the video.

Moments later, he returns to the interrogation room and the questioning continues.

“You had involvement in this death, and I want to know why,” Const. Davidson says. “I want to find out the reasons why.”

“You just accused me of being the cause of death to my father, so I don't like that at all,” Oland replies.

Three hours into the interview, Const. Keith Copland takes over. At one point he asks about scratches on Oland's arm.

“How did you get that scratch on your left arm? Struggle last night? There's a little bit of abrasion down there. Did that happen during a struggle?” Const. Copeland asks. “I noticed it quite a while ago. I’m looking for something for you to say what happened, that it wasn't cold blooded.”

Oland remains silent throughout much of the last half of the questioning. When asked why he isn't replying, he states he was told by his lawyer to stay quiet.

“It's very frustrating to sit here and have to listen and to not be able to speak at all, because I can't,” Oland says.

“You absolutely can, you're making a choice Dennis. You're making a choice to listen to advice that somebody has given you. That's all you’re basing your decision on, and that's your choice,” says Const. Copeland.

The interrogation ends with Const. Copeland asking if Oland wants to explain what happened. Dennis Oland answers, “No,” and is then led out of the room.
