WOODSTOCK, N.B. -- Polls open today for a provincial byelection in the New Brunswick riding of Carleton.
The seat was left vacant after the resignation of former premier David Alward, who stepped down in May after being appointed Canada's consul general in Boston.
Polls are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and more than 1,500 people voted in advance polls.
There are five names on the ballot, including Randall Leavitt for the People's Alliance, Courtney Keenan for the Liberals and Stewart Fairgrieve for the Progressive Conservatives.
Greg Crouse is running for the NDP and Andrew Clark for the Green party.
The Liberals hold 26 seats in the legislature, the Tories have 21 and the Greens have one seat.
