There are new developments in the four-month Codiac Transpo dispute in Moncton.

Mayor George LeBlanc says he is not ruling out the idea of a privatized public transit system.

LeBlanc says he recognizes residents have been frustrated about the lack of bus service in Moncton over the past four months.

Codiac Transpo locked out its workers June 27 after they threatened to strike.

LeBlanc says the city has not looked closely at a private model yet, but there are calls for it.

“We are getting increasing pressure and requests from people in the community who are saying ‘enough is enough, go in that direction,’” he says.

Recent talks between the city and the union abruptly broke down when wage parity with other unions in the last year of a proposed contract derailed the talks.

Roughly 90 bus drivers, mechanics and other workers have been without a collective agreement for over two years.
