A Moncton mom is concerned about pesticides being sprayed at her child’s school.

The Anglophone East School District has a policy against using pesticides, but Nancy Trites says that doesn’t mean they aren’t being sprayed.

She says she saw several signs on the lawn of Evergreen Park School last week, indicating it had been treated with a pesticide.

“For them to come play on the grounds and have it sprayed with pesticides, they’re not allowed on there now,” says Trites of her children.

When she called the school district she learned the school building and property is privately owned

A co-owner of the company that owns the property, says he was shocked to learn pesticides had been sprayed and started investigating.

He says it appears a landscaping company working on the property discovered a bug problem near the front steps and was told by a company employee that he could use pesticides.

The school district isn’t saying much about the matter, but did address their pesticide policy in an email to CTV News:

“The district practice for pesticides and herbicides is that we do not use them at all. Companies are expected to follow district and provincial practices and policies,” said a spokesperson for the Anglophone East School District.

The companysays it will ensure pesticides aren’t used on the property again.
