RCMP in New Brunswick have laid additional charges in connection with a robbery and assault last week.

Officers with the District 5 RCMP were called to a home in Upper Rexton on Friday after two armed men allegedly broke into the home and stabbed a 36-year-old man.

Police say a 43-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl were also assaulted in the home invasion and the suspects fled the scene with prescription drugs and cash.

Police say the three victims have since been treated in hospital and released.

District 5 RCMP in Richibucto, with the assistance of the District 5 Crime Reduction Unit, have been investigating the case and two men were arrested in connection with the incident Sunday.

Alexander Peters of Elsipogtog was originally charged with robbery with a weapon, aggravated assault and breach of recognizance.

Additional charges have been laid against the 25-year-old and police say he now faces a total of 18 charges in connection with the incident, including forcible confinement, and break and enter.

Twenty-seven-year-old Nicholas Francis Ward of Red Bank is also facing 18 charges including robbery, assault, forcible confinement, break and enter, and being unlawfully at large from a federal institution.

Police say both Peters and Ward are being held in custody. They are due to appear in court on April 17 for their bail hearings.
