Four storms have blown through the region in four weeks and snow is beginning to pile up in Moncton.
The wintry weather has made driving and walking dangerous, and with more snow in the air, residents are warned to be cautious and prepared.
Thirty centimetres of snow fell in Moncton over the weekend and more flurries are expected to fall Wednesday.
Mountains of snow can be a lot of fun for children to play in, but for motorists, those mountains can cause a lot of headaches.
“When I'm in a school zone, both my eyes are going all the time and I'm driving very slow,” says motorist Scott MacDougall.
Pedestrians are also struggling as they try to navigate through snow banks to access the sidewalks on Main Street.
RCMP are asking everyone to be cautious.
“We're certainly urging motorists to be careful at intersections, as well as pedestrians that are using our sidewalks,” says Const. Damien Theriault of the Codiac RCMP. “They can be slippery.”
City crews are doing what they can to push snow banks back, ahead of the 10-15 centimetres that are expected to fall over the next two days.
“The biggest challenge is always the snow storage,” says Jeff Scott of Moncton Public Works. “Where do we put it once we clear it off the streets? We haven't had the time to get it hauled out of the downtown like we usually do.”
Despite the recent snow removal and plowing, the city’s $5.4-million winter snow removal budget for this year isn’t in jeopardy – at least not yet.
“The budget, I think is in good shape,” says Scott. “Operationally, we don't concern ourselves with that. We don't restrict ourselves by that. We deal with each storm as it comes.”
