FREDERICTON -- The New Brunswick government says it will save $30 million over the next five years by consolidating four government agencies.
Victor Boudreau, the minister responsible for the government's strategic program review, says legislation will be introduced to absorb the functions of the New Brunswick Internal Services Agency, Department of Government Services and FacilicorpNB into Service New Brunswick.
He says the savings will be achieved primarily through the use of new technology and automated systems.
Right now the four agencies have about 2,400 employees, but Boudreau says there will be job cuts.
He says it's too early to say how many jobs will be lost, and how many can be reduced through attrition.
The government is looking for up to $600 million in cuts and new revenue in time for the budget it will deliver next year.
