FREDERICTON -- The New Brunswick government is consolidating 74 government-operated call centres into just four, and is set to announce the locations of the remaining centres.

Last week, Premier Brian Gallant announced that one will be in Edmundston.

A government source says Gallant will announce today that the others will be in Dalhousie, Fredericton and Moncton.

The call centres handle both internal and external calls -- from IT support for government employees to fielding calls from the public to NB Power on power outages.

The government estimates the consolidations will save about $12.9 million over five years, but has not completed an audit to know how many jobs will be kept and how many will be eliminated.

The two centres in northern New Brunswick will be open in a matter of months, while the other two are expected to be in use by the end of 2017.
