FREDERICTON -- The new Speaker of the New Brunswick legislature will be named today.

The governing Liberals want Chris Collins for the job.

But the Opposition Progressive Conservatives say they won't support Collins, who is the Liberal member for Moncton Centre.

The Tories say they will support Hugh Flemming, the Progressive Conservative member for Rothesay and former health minister.

The speaker is chosen by a vote and the Liberals hold a majority in the legislature.

A swearing-in ceremony will also take place today for members elected to the legislature last month.
