A New Brunswick man is facing charges in connection with a crash that claimed the life of woman in Moncton earlier this month.

RCMP responded to the collision on Killam Drive before 9:30 p.m. on April 17.

They say the victim was travelling eastbound on Killam Drive when her car collided head on with a westbound vehicle near the intersection of Edinburgh Drive.

Police say 36-year-old Kathy Horsman of Berry Mills was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced dead. She was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle had to be extracted from his car.

He was taken to hospital with injuries, while a passenger in the vehicle also sustained injuries.

Police say 41-year-old Boyd Atkinson of Lakeville faces a total of eight charges which include driving a motor vehicle while impaired thereby causing death, driving a motor vehicle while impaired thereby causing bodily harm, driving a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner thereby causing death and refusing to comply with a demand to provide a sample of blood.

Atkinson appeared in court this morning. He will remain in custody until a bail hearing on Friday.
