New Brunswick RCMP say a 40-year-old Saint-Paul man is facing serious charges after a woman was found injured in the back of a van.

Codiac Regional RCMP received a tip that a man was driving around Greater Moncton with an injured woman in the back of his van on Tuesday.

Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Regis Street in Dieppe shortly after 1 p.m.

Police say the driver cooperated with police and opened the back of the van, where officers found an injured woman.

The 34-year-old woman was taken to hospital.

David Beaulieu is facing charges of forcible confinement and aggravated assault in connection with the incident. He appeared in Moncton provincial court Wednesday afternoon and will be held overnight until his bail hearing Thursday morning.

Police confirm Beaulieu and his alleged victim are in a relationship.
