The RCMP in New Brunswick are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a man wanted in connection with an assault on a two-year-old boy.

Police say Benoit LeBouthillier is accused of assault causing bodily harm against the boy and making death threats against the boy’s mother on two separate occasions.

The incidents are alleged to have taken place on July 31, 2011 and a month later on Aug. 31, in the Belledune area.

Police say the 34-year-old Bas-Caraquet man appeared in provincial court on Sept. 1, 2011 and entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.

A trial date was scheduled for Jan. 3, 2012, but police say LeBouthillier failed to appear in court to stand trial.

The provincial court issued a warrant for his arrest but attempts to locate him have been unsuccessful.

LeBouthillier is described as five-foot-eight, 144 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police.
