Jonathan Burns usually goes fishing with his younger brotherJosh this long weekend but now he’s planning the funeral for his 25-year-old brother.
Josh Burns was visiting the Ben Eoin Beach Campground in Nova Scotia earlier this week with his girlfriend and her family when he jumped from a moving vehicle.
Witnesses told CTV Burns was lying face down on the ground near the campground's entrance.
He was airlifted to hospital in Halifax but died of his injuries.
“We just want to know what had happened in my brother's last few moments,” says Josh’s brother, Johnathan Burns.
Josh's siblings say they are confused.
They describe their brother as cautious, especially around cars.
“If you know him at all, anyone would have a hard time believing that,” says Josh’s sister, Jessica Burns.
Cape Breton Regional Police say they're not pursuing any criminal investigation. They told CTV they were involved in the case at the beginning but it's no longer a police matter.
While the family seeks more answers, they've found peace knowing Josh's organs have given life to someone else.
The family calls it a miracle because he was born with a poor heart. Doctors said then, he'd only live to be four years old.
“I’m proud of everything he's done and everything he continues to do after,” says Jessica. “We’re so proud of the lives he's saving right now.”
The family says Josh always put others first.
Now they will also sign their own organ donor cards and become engaged with the transplant community.
