A New Brunswick woman has been arrested for impaired driving in connection with a three-vehicle collision involving a police cruiser in Sainte-Anne-de-Kent.

The RCMP received a 911 call about a dangerous driver headed northbound on Highway 11 before 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Officers were responding to the area when the alleged driver crossed the centre line and into the path of an oncoming police vehicle.

The RCMP say the police officer left the road in an attempt to avoid a crash but the driver allegedly struck the side of the cruiser and then struck another vehicle head-on.

A 54-year-old woman from Paquetville was arrested for impaired driving. She was taken to hospital for medical treatment and later released.

Police say three other people were taken to hospital with injuries.

A section of Highway 11 was closed to traffic for over six hours as police investigated the crash. The road reopened around 8 p.m.

The incident remains under investigation. There is no word on charges at this time.
