A Maritime craft brewery wants your rhubarb as a main ingredient in their new creation and they’re willing to make a deal.

Corey Moore grew a plentiful crop of rhubarb this spring.

“All the rhubarb is popping up, but I don' t know what we're going to do with all of it. Just happened, I was trying to figure out what we were going to make with it and I happened to see that the next day and I was like that's perfect,” says Moore.

What she saw was a tweet. Halifax’s Garrison Brewery Company put out a call for the pick of the crop.

“Step 1: Bring us your clean ripe Rhubarb. Step 2: We’ll brew it up. Step 3: You get beer in trade,” read the tweet.

The brewery is calling the idea the U-Pick Series.

“It’s there in your yard. Some people use it, a lot of people don't. We want it, we're going to brew with it,” says Brian Titus, president of Garrison Brewing Company.

The U-Pick series is getting a great reaction from beer enthusiasts.

“I think it’s great,” says Tim Fletcher, home brewer. “I love seeing craft brewers using local ingredients and get the community involved, so I’m happy to participate.”

This isn't the first time Garrison Brewing Company has experimented with beer. They have jalapeno, Nova Scotia spruce and lavender beers.

“There will be other things we'll bring out different times of year, that once again aren't given the love and respect they deserve,” says Titus. “So we're going to brew and we're going to make something truly special.”

From the garden, to the glass, soon customers will be able to raise a glass of rhu-beer.
