One Maritime high school graduate may have taken prom transportation to a whole new level.

Mackenzie Cole had a helicopter to take him and his date to the prom at Amherst Regional High on Thursday.

Cole says students at the school often try to outdo each other by arranging elaborate transportation, and he wanted to up the ante.

He certainly did.

The 18-year-old put a lot of work into his prom experience.

He actually had to cut the grass in an empty field to make sure the chopper had a clear landing pad when it arrived from Halifax.

Cole says his classmates were a little skeptical about the idea, but nearly everyone was blown away when the pair arrived in fine style.

Their mode of transportation wasn’t inexpensive either.

The student says it cost around $2,000 to rent the chopper and pilot for an hour-and-a-half.

Cole is graduating high school Monday, and he’ll head to Memorial University in Newfoundland this fall.
